Takashi Murakami, the famous contemporary Japanese artist, @ The Brooklyn Museum. The artist who Kanye West has been heaping praise upon since before the release of Graduation.

I loved the exhibit.

There really wasn’t a single thing that I wasn’t fascinated by or wasn’t ‘that’ cool. Images of plants, animals all anime’d. Some images small, and others grand taking up nearly the whole wall. It was interesting in some rooms how they had the entire room decorated to match the paintings and really create a “presence.” Each piece in all definitely made you think and displayed great detailed commentary on popular culture. Very complex and going beyond simplicity. Intriguing and fun, sexy, weird, and disturbing. Definitely caught my attention!!

Murakami’s work is the first time I’ve wanted to own “fine art” so badly. It’s interesting to see it accepted in prestigious gallery’s and museums across the world. I think it’s particularly interesting that he has actual branded gift shop items at the exhibition. Anime Warhol?
