Last night, I was invited to check out a show at the Whiskey in Hollywood. I was able to catch a handful of bands of all different sounds. Some really good, some not so great. My favorite set for the night was Stella’s Notch. The sound was pretty amazing and I wish I had been able to capture some of it on video to share with you all! You can search on YouTube for some, but there aren’t many, cuz’ I guess they are a fairly new band, although the band members are not new to the scene. From what I hear, their lead singer, Melody, was pretty big a couple years ago in the Philippines as the lead vocalist for a band called Sugar Hiccup.

Back to last night’s show…the sound was overall great despite the occasional feedback, the energy was great, Melody looked hot, and it was pretty cool that they brought on a guest violinist, a taiko drummer (from the previous set’s Random Ninjas), and a real belly dancer! Yup, it was pretty wild. Oh, and turns out that last night was their official album release. They definitely put on a great show for their debut!
Anyway, I’m actually listening to their album, Beyond Wonderland, as I type this. It’s really great. Highly recommended.

I so dig Stella’s Notch and remember the first time I saw them back in 2003 at the Stone Bar. The line up was different with exception to Melody on vocals. I recall another time seeing them at the same venue, and her current drummer and guitarist (Miguel and Dennis) played later that night for their other band, X-Syndrome. That was a freakin’ rad show. Another note. Stella’s Notch was part of NBCs online talent show, “Start Tomorrow” a few years back. I believe they went into the third for forth round in the competition.
Their song “Evil Jill” cracks me up!
My favorite is “I Fall Prey.”
Beyond Wonderland is a great album, especially with Melody’s hypnotic vocals.
*EMO TEAR* for X-Syndrome! Funny thing is the band that performed before Random Ninjas and Stella’s Notch sounded A LOT LIKE X-Syndrome! They’re called Of The Saints. Must be karmic.
Oh yeah, X-Syndrome… awww…
Last Friday was a great show indeed!
And also, Melody was in Sugar Hiccup until 2001 - when she moved here permanently.
Loved the show! Their album is a must buy. If you don’t have it, hunt them down and get it. It is good from beginning to end. I know them from myspace. Fell in love with 2 of their songs (1 they played that night) and I’ve been waiting to see them live since then. THEY DID NOT DISAPPOINT!
