Feel Good Fusion - June 2008

Sparrow Love Crew (BIO from CRACKLE.com)

The Southern California Based Hip-Hop dynamo Sparrow Love Crew is renowned for their fresh beats and fiendishly fun lyrics. Oh, and for getting parties started, crowds riled and masses of lasses shakin’ it on stage. Sparrow Love Crew radiate positive energy, lyrical choreography and witty verbiage. They also own a stage like Donald Trump owns the Trump Tower.

Drawing upon an eclectic array of influences SLC blends elements of dance, ghettotech, electronica, even freestyle with their own style of high energy, soulful hip hop. SLC seeks to blend the best of the past with the hope of a future. While they push forward conventional formulas, their songs are made for end-of-the-night sing-alongs, hip-hop as it was first imagined—party-rockin’ first, ask questions later.

He says. “It’s great to be able to bring the West Coast Party atmosphere to a country that can bearly speak our language… We communicate through Hip Hop and Turntablism…”

He has also opened for such artists as Coolio, Xzibit, Fabulous and Guerilla Black during the DUB Car Shows and SEMA events and was also honored to have opened gor W.C. from Westside Connection during their 10 day tour in Japan. When I was a senior in high school there were only 4 things I cared about; drawing, film, music, and partying. The last of the four got the best of me and I moved to San Diego to attend college. Two years later my dad called me out on that. He knew I wasn’t learning anything (except those life lessons, a.k.a. how to best remedy a hang over). My dad knew I was always into the arts, but I never gave a hard push into pursuing it seriously. On my last day of my sophmore year, my dad picked me up from SD, and on the long drive back to the valley talked about my situation. He was the one that suggested I get a real education in what I loved so much. I had heard about a school in Pasadena called Art Center College of Design. A friend of mine was on his way and said nothing but good things. After two hours of talking about this with my dad, when I actually got to my “home home”, my decision was made. I pulled out my pencils and started building my portfolio that day. Six months later I was accepted into Art Center, and never went back to UCSD.

As if that wasn’t enough, right around that time I got into my first serious band. It consumed my life and I struggled to find a balance between music and the visual arts. My dad had a hard time with my decision to pursue music so intensely, but in the end supported my decision. He himself loved to sing and found interest in my endeavors with music. Six years after I got into Art Center I found myself a new graduate and in the real world. What the fuck was I going to do with my education? I didn’t know quite yet, but I felt like I had received the foundation for the rest of my adult life.

Now I get to work with everything that was so important to me when I was a senior in HS on a day to day basis. I only get to do this because my dad had faith in me, and supported me along the way. It’s a bit early, but this post had to be written right now. Thanks dad! I guess in return I’ll have to write those letters for you till the day I die (who knew realtors had to write so much?)!

The most anticipated album (for me) is the most amazing album of the year thus far.

Truly original.

The Fifth = End of U2’s Reign?

I loved the exhibit.

There really wasn’t a single thing that I wasn’t fascinated by or wasn’t ‘that’ cool. Images of plants, animals all anime’d. Some images small, and others grand taking up nearly the whole wall. It was interesting in some rooms how they had the entire room decorated to match the paintings and really create a “presence.” Each piece in all definitely made you think and displayed great detailed commentary on popular culture. Very complex and going beyond simplicity. Intriguing and fun, sexy, weird, and disturbing. Definitely caught my attention!!

The Sweet Hurt

Wendy Wang plays bass or played bass in Let’s Go Sailing, Correatown..
but Wendy is The Sweet Hurt.

In high school, her 4-track recordings brought sweet justice against those who moved on to bigger and better things. Midi and a digital recorder was the fancy upgrade that was used to convince friends to play in her band.

In the summer of 2004, wendy retreated to the old acoustic style recordings and self-produced a 4-song demo. Then in early 2005, The Sweet Hurt Demo EP, which featured a full band. In the spring of ‘06, a 4-song EP titled “Everyday Mistakes” was recorded.

The newest EP “In The Shade Of Dreams”, drops on June 7, 2008.
The Sweet Hurt wants everyone to know that she’s bringing a love that’s true, so get ready, get ready…
