Speaking of Daft Punk, I recently got to see their feature film with my old partner in crime, Devilish. With a pair of tickets on roll call, we rushed out to the Nuart Theater for the midnight showing of ELECTROMA.
I was looking forward to a great night out, but everything took a sour turn as we both witnessed
THE MOST BORING MOVIE EVER MADE!
I was severely let down and I would be giving the film too much credit if I was to say it was “bad”.
In my honest opinion…IT SUCKED SWEATY NUTS ON A HOT AND HUMID DAY! (no homo)
I’de rather watch 2Girls1Cup* over and over again.
On second though, maybe not 2Grils1Cup, but I’de certainly watch Red Asphalt** repeatedly rather than sit through Electroma again.
First of all…how do you figure that these awesome electronic producers from outer space could manage to make such a lame and disgustingly boring movie with NO music. When I think Daft Punk film, I immediately think loud music, thrilling visuals, and electro rock astronauts from outer space. Completely the opposite, Electroma was made up of NO music, boring scenic shots, and 2 guys walking around in elaborate helmets.
90% of the movie consists of simple shots and audio of the 2 guys walking through the desert. One guy blows up and the remaining guy just keeps walking through the desert. THE END. Save yourself the money and DO NOT buy the DVD.
I think the only people who enjoyed it were the raver kids who watched it while on acid and heroin at the same time…whatever that feels like.
After an hour of nodding off we eventually ended up walking out of there as I chanted “BOOOORRING!!!”
People started to take our lead and walked out of the theater right behind us.
I love their music, but their movie is whack city!
Enough hating for today…Now go bump ROBOT ROCK as loud as you can!
or better yet, watch my favorite Daft Punk video that forever plays in my mind…

*If you don’t know what I’m talking about…believe me, you don’t want to know. Or do you?
**For those with good driving records, Red Asphalt is that gruesome DUI video that they show to everyone at Traffic school.

Thao Nguyen is just too wonderful for words, the folksiest folk you will ever love. Here she is performing “What About” live with the Get Down Stay Down at the Black Cat in Washington D.C. Their new album will be out January 29 on Kill Rock Stars. Hit up Myspace and her website for some free songs.

I don’t know why it took me so long to become obsessed with Daft Punk, but the time has finally arrived. I’m really excited to become a fan! It’s so weird because through out the years I’ve been hearing Daft Punk songs here and there on the radio/tv, whatever, but it kind of slipped by like extras in a movie. I do remember that I came really close to getting into them years ago when I heard “One More Time”. I guess with the recent exposure via Kanye West, FM, Lollapalooza, Electroma, etc, it became unavoidable for me to revisit the music.
Now that I’m in, it’s awesome because I feel like I have a whole world to explore - videos of amazing shit to see, robot costumes to draw, and innovative live footage to view. For you fans out there, please give a newbie some directions to geek out over!

Kenna.
Rocked the stage this summer when they opened up for Nelly Furtado.
Now they are ready to rock on their own.

Last month, I had a chance to watch Umbrellas live @ Plush Cafe in Fullerton, CA.
I really enjoy Umbrellas albums, but watching them live was even better!
If you were a scientist, whats one thing you would invent?

Here’s the brand new video for “Williamsburg” from Armor For Sleep. The clip shows the band rocking out at a school where a teacher is conducting a “Hipster 101″ class. MTV describes the video as “a sonic nose-thumbing at the now notorious Brooklyn hipster neighborhood.”
