Ra Ra Riot

Ra Ra Riot is uber talented. From Syracuse, New York, its a no-brainer why this energetic indie rock band has quickly gained a devoted following.

Band suffered a tragic loss of their original drummer John Pike, but pulled together and will release their full length debut album, The Rhumb Line on August 19th.

Awhile back I got to see an early screening of “Your Name Here”. I went to the screening not knowing what to expect, turns out I got to see a movie and travel back in time. “Your Name Here” captures the nervous energy all teenage bandsters go through and wraps it around a good time.

It’s going to be screening at the Downtown Film Fest so be there!

This film is appropriate for:
Peeps who make music
Peeps who have kids
Peeps who have kids who make music
Peeps who love SIlverlake
Peeps who like to laugh.
No one else though, really.

Your Name Here
Saturday Aug 16th, 4pm (this Sat!!)
Laemmle Grand Downtown
Downtown Film Fest

I know Pandora has been up for a while… but people STILL don’t know about it! I’ve been telling people about it for about 4 years now, before it has advertisements up and when their library was slim. The first thing I loved about it was the non-invasive advertising. The music continues to play without bullshit.

In my opinion, Pandora Radio is the best free internet radio available. Especially if you’re into discovering new music. I guess I’m a little obsessed. If you are into music, this is something you should use. It uncovers great new musicians/artists that have been hidden behind all of the mass media campaigns for superstars.

If you like a song, it’ll add more like it.
(by genre, key, and even BPM!)

If you don’t like it, you can banish it from your playlist without affecting other songs.

It’s simple and it’s FREE.
Freakin’ genius.

I somehow ended up at the La Brea Tar Pits Friday night, and good thing I did. I knew some sort of event was going on but wasn’t prepared for the sheer weirdness of the experience. On 8.08.2008, 88 drummers played simultaneously for over 88 minutes. Lead by Legendary Japanese Noise rock band, The Boredoms, the ensemble played an incredible set. My favorite part was when the group started playing crescendos on their symbols. It sounded like ocean waves crashing in the distant.

1. La Brea Tar Pits, stand up! 2. 1, 2, 3… yup, 88 drummers.
