    In my car x2

    February 17th, 2008

    1) Shai Hulud - That Within Blood Ill-Tempered

A staple in my car. Smart hardcore–smart chords, smart licks, smart lyrics. What other band can get away with screaming, “YOU WERE ONCE A GENTLEMAN”?

    2) Mandy Moore - Wild Hope

    Mandy is so hardcore.

    3) mewithoutYou - Brother Sister

The harp makes my spine tingle.

    Time is Fiction

The new Edison Glass album came out today!

I know. There are SO many bands out there–why should I spend my time listening to another?

Well I feel the same way. I get exhausted hearing about new bands too but this one makes my life a little more bearable. I hope it’ll effect you the same way:

Gosh the album art is so beautiful.

    OBJECTION!

    February 4th, 2008

I’m back! It’s been a long two months. Yeah I missed you too. Well I know this website is mainly about music but I love video games as well.

It seems like Capcom isn’t really pushing their fourth Ace Attorney game for the DS so I figured I should help out my favorite series. If you’re not familiar, imagine a game about attorneys made by the makers of Street Fighter. Pure awesome. Though I can never imagine using my law degree to be a defense attorney, I like to live vicariously through Phoenix Wright.

So what’s different about number four? Phoenix Wright is no longer in the spotlight and now you’re Apollo Justice. Moreover, it’s the first game in the series made specifically for the DS.

If you still need more convincing, Capcom has allowed you to play a portion of the real game. Check it out. Buy the game Feb 19. Don’t you dare download it onto your R4.

The weather has been nice lately–sans the rain. It makes me want to listen to:
    Mae - The Everglow
Big Bang - For the World
    Acceptance - Phantoms
    Watashi Wa - Eager Seas
    Phil Collins - Hits

    YES!!!

    December 4th, 2007

color.jpgAfter my extensive lobbying efforts, I’ve succeeded! Check out Burning Tree Project’s latest update: just want everyone to know, that we’re here and we didnt dissappear. We’ll have new stuff from the new album up this week along with a new myspace. We have alot of new updates that we havent shared with anyone. For starters, Our new EP Time and Color drops digitally on Jan 22nd. It will be available in stores everywhere sometime in March. Keep checkin back, everything will be up shortly. We’ve been working really hard to get everything done. As soon as everything is done, we really need everyone’s help in promoting. Thanks everyone! -enik

That’s right, they’re naming their album after my namesake. It’s going to be hard to be objective when I critique the EP. But from what I’ve heard so far, these guys belong on Tooth and Nail.

Alright back to work–three more finals to go.

Quick Reviews: Oh, Sleeper, Scott Tang, Anyband

    November 10th, 2007

    1) Oh, Sleeper - When I Am God

I can’t remember the last band on Tooth & Nail, let alone Solid State, that made me happy to be alive. Oh, Sleeper makes me smile. This was a great year for music but it was lacking that one hardcore album–finally it arrived. Can you believe it’s composed of ex-Terminal members? Neither can I. Oh, Sleeper’s new album is straight up in-yr-face rock.

    2) Scott Tang - Radiant

Listening to the first track of Radiant leaves you with a feeling that Scott watched his TGIF. I’ll admit I miss my Family Matters, Step by Step, and Full House too but Scott really missed his Boy Meets World. Well it turns out he never heard of the show. Regardless, “Topanga” is upbeat, catchy, and Keane-esque. I resist the urge to air drum along every time I listen to it. As for the album as a whole, Radiant is a genuine piano-driven pop record. It’s obvious that Scott’s love of music drives the entire record.

    3) Anyband Digital Single

I’ve been playing this non-stop. To promote their new Anycall phones, Samsung created Anyband, composed of BoA*, Tablo from Epik High, Xiah Junsu from DBSK/TVQX, and pianist Jin Bora. The two songs are just rock driven pop masterpieces. Even though a face-less corporation is behind it, Anyband is one of the best things I’ve heard come out of Korea lately. I’ll definitely take this over Paramore any day. Yeah I said it. Don’t believe me? Watch Anyband’s music video on youtube.

    Scott Tang - Radiant

    October 20th, 2007

Scott TangI always thought I was the first Asian rockstar to walk the halls of Pepperdine but Scott beat me to it. Turned out the guy sitting next to me in class performed with Burning Tree Project and FM.

“Radiant” is Scott Tang’s brand new full-length and it’s legit. If you like piano-driven rock, follow one of the lovely links provided below. Try out “Topanga.”

    Releases today

    October 16th, 2007

New Thrice, Jimmy Eat World, and Maritime today.

    Legit.

Alchemy Index: Everyone’s right. Fire sounds like old Cave In. It also reminds me of the Fire Temple in Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Water reminds me of FFVII. It makes me want to forget the last two albums they released. I’m so happy.
