Velvet Revolver Shoots their Only Bullet

    April 1st, 2008

    Velvet Revolver

So Velvet Revolver announced that they’re parting ways with lead singer, Scott Weiland, formerly of the 90’s iconic band, Stone Temple Pilots. The reason cited was due to his increasingly erratic behavior.

That’s basically a euphemism for Scott’s kicked out of the band cuz he’s a fucked up drughead.

It’s sad to see, as I truly loved their music. When Slither hit the radio airwaves, the instrumentals lead by Scott’s commanding voice was undeniable. Too bad the drugs were undeniable to him.

Scott Weiland was an incredible asset to their music and sound, and truly put a trademark on the group. Velvet Revolver’s just shot their last and only bullet.

    MGMT
The loudest buzz out at SXSW (South by Southwest) last week was surrounding a US Brooklyn based band producing a sound that mixes the Arcade Fire, Killers, Klaxons, evoking a sentiment of the 80’s wiht a modern indie twist. What do they call themselves?

    MGMT, pronounced management.
American youth, get ready for the indie pop invasion.

    Convicts Crank That Hammer Time

    February 29th, 2008

The Filipino convicts who were popularized on the web last year with the Thriller choreography are back dancing to my favorite song of August 2007 and August of 1991.

Soulja Boy’s Crank That & MC Hammer’s Can’t Touch This.

The Battle of the Century: Kimmel vs Damon

    February 26th, 2008

I’m sure half of the global citizenry has seen this by now for the sheer buzz factor, but just in case you haven’t, Jimmy Kimmel’s war with Matt Damon has escalated.

Matt JimmyFor the past year or two, Jimmy Kimmel has been concluding every show apologizing to Matt Damon for bumping him off the show, due to running out of time. Finally, when it appeared that Matt Damon would be on the show, Jimmy Kimmel introduces Matt Damon to a littany of film and project credentials, spanning over 2 minutes that saw Ben Stiller in the crowd losing his patience. Finally, Jimmy Kimmel announces Matt Damon to which he comes out to a roaring crowd. Seconds later, Jimmy shakes his hand and apologizes to Matt asking him to come back another time as they’ve run out of time. Matt erupts on stage and a diatribe of pure hate and venom vomits out the lips of Jason Bourne.

At the Ocean’s 13 premiere, Jimmy sends his security guard and pseudo celebrity character to the red carpet to interview the stars. Stepping up to the mic were George Clooney, Al Pacino, Brad Pitt, the works. As Matt Damon steps up to the camera, Guillermo the fearless guard turns to the camera and calmly says, “Apologies to Matt Damey-yun, we ran out of time”.

The last jab from Jimmy comes during the pre-release campaign of the Bourne Supremacy. Guillermo the Guard has taken over as the main role of Jason Bourne in the trailer playing on screen. Surprisingly, Matt Damon appears on camera and asks Guillermo, “are you from Kimmel?” Matt continues cursing Jimmy until the close of the trailer.

Yes, rounds of friendly jabs at each other between the two, but things accelerated last December as Sarah Silverman publicly disclosed that she has been f*cking Matt Damon.

And 2 months later, Jimmy Kimmel strikes back at the two.
    Jimmy Kimmel is f*cking…

    Rocking High School.

    January 11th, 2008

What I’m rocking in my car right now…

    1. Gorillaz - Feel Good Inc.

    2. Live - Selling the Drama

    3. U2 - With or Without You

    4. Jimmy Eat World - Sweetness

    5. Rick Springfield - Jessie’s Girl

    6. Buggles - Video Killed the Radio Star

    7. Sugar Hill Gang - Rapper’s Delight

    8. Dashboard Confessional - Hands Down

    9. The Fray - How to Save a Life

    10. The Arcade Fire - Wake Up

    11. Collective Soul - Shine

    12. Beastie Boys - Fight For Your Right

    13. Beck - Girl

    14. Death Cab for Cutie - Soul Meets Body

    15. Fall Out Boy - Dance, Dance

    16. AC DC - Back in Black

    17. Jimmy Eat World - The Middle

One song that will always resonate with me is Live’s Selling the Drama.

It brings me back to my days in high school awkwardly approaching girls in the school cafeteria for a dance, of nervously dialing her number into the phone and asking her out to dinner. It’s symbolic of the coming of age of our generation; of blindly searching for something called like and love, of beginning to find yourself, of fitting into the amalgamation of cliques excluding each other, and of finding a semblance of tranquility and youth within the organized chaos of high school.

Or at least it was for me.

Watch Selling the Drama and reminisce.

Alicia Keys & Soulja Boy & One Republic are winners.

    November 28th, 2007

Alicia Keys’ single, “No One” just went platinum this week.

    1,047,039 units sold to date.

    Record sales are still alive…somewhat.

One Republic’s Apologize produced by Timbaland is up to 1,594,439 sales this week. I predicted it would be huge, putting it on repeat when I first got the album. The single’s only growing, with an 8% increase from the previous week. Give it another month and you’ll hear it everywhere you go.

And honestly, the most complete surprise to me … Soulja Boy’s song Crank That is still selling above 100K units per week, is certified double platinum with 2,367,764 units sold to date.

How long can you Superman that ho before she gets tired of it? With a 14% increase in the single’s sales from the previous week…No One will.
ahh, shut up and crank that soulja boy.

    Build You An Empire

    November 9th, 2007

    AVA I-Empireava

The highly anticipated follow up to their debut album, We Don’t Need To Whisper has landed and is shaking things up.

    AVA iTunes Short
Angels & Airwaves’ sophomore album, I-Empire was released this past Tuesday with the lead single off the album, “Everything’s Magic” and finds itself sitting in the number 1 spot on iTunes, bumping Britney Spears off the top spot. The album is an epic journey in music, but without the hard to grasp melodies of the freshman album. Simply put, it’s more “Blink 182ish”, radiating catchy hooks, while preserving the bold crescendos, climax, and denouements they’ve now come to own.”

Everything’s Magic” is an ode to a simpler time, harkening back to the innocence and naivete of love, friendship, and when and where everything is purely magic. Close your eyes, and just remember those times without worry, without callousness, when the world around you was nearly perfect.

Those Friday nights when you’re under the bleachers with your friends, hear the stomping above you in the rafters, the cadences from the drumline, the impacts of the players, and smell the brisk dew of the night, under the bright lights, and building up the courage to talk to a crush of yours just standing yards from you. You build up that courage and you say hello, and at that moment, everything’s magic.

I-Empire is an experience, that brings you to another place, where you are within your own empire of thoughts, reflection, hope, and refinement. The trailer made for the album encapsulates the epic journey within the music and body of work that is I-Empire.
