    523 Cassette

    March 17th, 2008

After a long day of work I arrived at the 523 Cassette store opening late. First I saw Rickey, then Mr. Kim introduced me to Joel Madden. Then Rickey ran off to take care of business. Shot the shit with Joel for a bit… it was kinda weird meeting him after having heard so many hit tracks from his band Good Charlotte. He talked a bit about their upcoming album, he was really excited about it and said that so far, the album had lots of good hooks. It’s always a treat to hear musicians talk about work in progress, when it’s shaping up well, you can always hear the genuine enthusiasm.

    1. I love my new neon, glow in the dark cap 2. Jack and Coke anyone?

Afterward Grace and I finally walked into the store only to be bombarded by flashing lights, good music, and an army of hipsters. Peter tapped me and as usual was looking super hard! He seemed to be really happy with the turn out. Cassette is on a rampage and they’re gonna continue to climb upward as long as Peter wants to.

    1. Superbad 2. The house of Cassette

Was the party good? Well all I can say is that the backyard had an awesome taco van. Nuff said!

I found mcbess’s website through a design site. Apparently he does all of these amazing illustrations, does 3d work, awesome motion, AND plays some rockin dirty blues. It’s been awhile since I’ve heard something so fresh n’ so dirty.

    Rock-n-Roll Soldiers

    March 7th, 2008

    Ever hear of Rock-n-Roll Soldiers?

    rocknrollsoldiers
Straight out of Eugene, Oregon, these guys have to be the epitome of what I love about Rock and Roll. The song’s are pure energy and make you wanna dance while flailing your arms at the same time. I happened to catch them live at the El Rey awhile back and it was one of the best live acts I’ve ever seen.YouTube Preview Image

    Please say you like them.

    Stone’s Throw Away from Cabana.

    March 2nd, 2008

Finally had some time to go out and enjoy a night of good times and great music. First stopped by the Evil Monito party where the Stones Throw crew threw down (no pun intended). Delicious drinks were provided by 10 Cane Rum through-out the event; yes it was packed.

    1. In the backyard of the Evil Monito space 2. Is that you Peanut Butter Wolf? Lookit all the camera’s… probably people getting ready to do what I’m doing… God I’m lame.

Afterwards I jammed out to barely make it on time to Cabana club - our friends FM were celebrating J-Splif’s bday along with the official jump off of their website.

    1. Nice glasses. Monica making FR*A look amazing 2. Happy bday J!

Needless to say I had a great time and got to see the sunrise before my bedsheets.  Till next time folks - now back to my cave.

    In My Car

    February 15th, 2008

The following cd’s are being played in my car right now:

    1. The Beatles - “1″

    1

“Lady Madonna” is the perfect feel good Saturday morning track, and then the very next track “Hey Jude” is a classic. You’ll be singing “na na na na na na na” by the end.

    2. Bloc Party - “Silent Alarm”

    blocparty

I love Bloc Party, exclamation mark. Their drummer, Matt Tong, makes me into analogue drums again. The sound captured in “Silent Alarm” is pretty much what I would have hoped for Red Team Go! Standout tracks include everything.

    3. Angels and Airwaves - “I - Empire”

    aa

Tons of great atmospheric rock. If U2 died in the 80’s and reincarnated in time for the 21st century, this is what they would’ve sounded like. I’m definitely impressed Tom. Track #8 “True Love” and #4 “Love Like Rockets” are my favorites.
