I knew i wasn’t wrong about Kid Sister
December 4th, 2007
Chicago emcee, Kid Sister (i did an article about her earler) has come out with an official video for “Pro Nails” Featuring Kanye West. It’s got HYPE written all over it man. My favorite part of the video has got to be the fingers with the little shoes on break dancing around. Brilliance. She’s doing big things. Kanye West pretty much adds that extra boost of legitimacy surrounding her. Hopefully she won’t go the way of Lady Soverign.

Do the Pigeon…JOHN!
November 25th, 2007
Pigeon John rocked the Casbah this past Friday night at a show in San Diego. He probably put on one of the most unique hip hop performances i’ve ever seen. He’s got this personality that brings ya in…and then punches you in the face when your not expecting it with one hell of a performance. Cuz face it, when you look at the guy: (Cue picture at the Top): he isn’t what you would expect to see when you think of any of the mainstream rappers of today. Hell, he isn’t really what you’d expect to see when you think of most underground rappers.
He jumped on stage with Dj Davey Rockit (Davey Crockit, I get it!!!) and turned out song after song from his latest album, “And the summertime pool party.” He even worked in some songs like “Deception” and “Nothing Without You” from his earlier albums “Pigeon John is dating your sister” and “Pigeon John sings the blues.”
Pigeon John or Mr. PJ for short, or PJ for even shorter, put out his first LP back in 2002 selling over 11,000 copies without distribution. According to his website he has had features in Spin’s “Next Big Things” issue and Urb’s “Next 100.” So how come I only found out about his infectious rhymes this past year!! How come a good majority of you are only hearing about him now (through this article)! A talent like Mr. John’s needs to be spread throughout the country, so do your American duty and tell as many people as you can about him. Check out more info at www.Pigeonjohn.com.

There has been some talk for some time about this “Finishing the Game” movie. Well, if you’d like to see it in all it’s glory, along with some other excellent independent features, please make your way down to the San Diego Asian Film Festival coming up October 11-18 at the Ultra Star Cinemas in Mission Valley Hazard Center.
Some other huge films to note include a showing of Chan-Wook Park’s “I’m a Cyborg, But that’s Ok.” Also, documentary “Air Guitar Nation” will be showing. 2003 International Champion C-diddy will be in attendance doing a live performance too!
Finally, the closing night film is the West Coast Premiere of Michael Kang’s New Flick “West 32nd”. It stars John Cho and Grace Park.

That was some Hot Hot Heat
September 28th, 2007I saw the Hot Hot Heat “Happiness LTD” Tour last night at the Soma in San Diego. I was on the verge of not going too (for reasons unknown). But, i sucked it up, and randomly made my way over to see them. I’m very happy I did. This was a band on the list of groups I promised myself I would see. Being a fan since the “Bandages” phase, i always seemed to miss them whenever they went on tour. and Now i have. So….if you haven’t seen them, it’s quite the experience. I highly recommend it.
Front Man Steve Bays has the most unique lips i’ve ever seen on someone. They were very Mick Jaggeresque. They curved up the side in the most interesting way.
It was a fun act, with light bulbs that hung from the ceiling and lit up on cue with the music. In particular on “Oh No”, the bulbs flashed on and off in tune with the lyrics that made me very hyponotized to the point i was on the verge of seizure. But a good kind of seizure. Ya know, the kind that makes ya go, “hey, this feels kinda good on the inside.”
They mixed old songs with new, starting off with “Talk to me, Dance with me” and then moved back and forth between some of their newer material off of “Happiness LTD”.
They’re still on tour right now, so go out and get tickets and support. Check out Hothotheat.com for tour dates. Featured supporting tour band Bedouin Soundclash is mighty fine too!

whhhhhaaaaaa? 50 cent number 1 album on itunes??
September 14th, 2007I had fallen fast asleep last night playfully replaying Kanye West’s “The Good Life” over and over in my head. I thought to myself, “Wow, this right here, is the good life. After months of speculation that the world was ignorant and would surely let 50 Cent win in the battle of the hip hop titans, that belief was kindly put to rest after Kanye clearly was the victor on Tuesday’s releases.”
But, then I woke up. I turned on my computer. I looked at my iTunes preparing to once again overkill “Stronger” and what did I see? Under top albums, 50 Cent’s “Curtis” is number 1. How did this happen after 2 full days of Kanye at the top?
My guess is that come next week, when we find out who the number 1 seller is, 50 Cent (that wirey little scamp) and his team is going to have already bought up many of his albums that didn’t sell to put him over the edge. This goes for buying up iTunes songs too.
So America, I call you to duty, go and pick up 10 Kanye West albums today (along with the new Hot Hot Heat!), distribute them to your friends, loved ones, and even your pets. We all benefit from a little more Kanye and a little less 50. Let’s put our money where our mouth is and show America that we want more music like Kanye.
I have some illegally downloaded copies of “Curtis” if anyone would like one.
-Keep rocking the movement-
